Cloud IT Week in Review: Cisco, CompTIA & More

October 01, 2016

Happy Saturday! Welcome back to the Week in Review, where we discuss all things Cloud IT. This week we saw a variety of topics covered, and with that in mind, let’s take a look back at the past few days.

The week started off with news from a Cisco study, developed by the International Data Corporation (IDC), titled “Cloud Going Mainstream: All Are Trying, Some Are Benefiting; Few Are Maximizing Value.” Participants in the survey were executives responsible for IT decisions in more than 6,100 organizations across 31 countries that are deploying private, public and hybrid clouds in their IT environments. The study revealed exactly what the title indicates: cloud adoption is on the rise, but few people are using it to its maximum potential. You can read about all the findings HERE.

On the topic of studies, CompTIA just released the results of their report “Trends in Cloud Computing.” The study found that the vast majority, over 90 percent, of surveyed companies are currently using some kind of cloud computing.  However, people are increasingly using it for “non-critical” functions, while full production cloud computing is dropping. TMC’s Steve Anderson takes us through the statistics of the report, acknowledging what the results could mean for the bigger market. You can get the full article HERE.

To round out the week, TMC’s Paula Bernier reported that 78 percent of small businesses will use cloud services by 2020, according to a Telappliant blog. Paula comments on the reasoning by saying, “That’s because of the many benefits of the cloud. The blog runs through 15 cloud benefits, a few of which include access to enterprise-level technology at a fraction of the cost and time that would be required for an on-premises implementation, a reduction in IT expenditures, fewer management hassles, high reliability and availability, unlimited storage, and more.” She discusses these benefits in depth, and also talks about the leaders in the market right now. Find all the details HERE.

While some diverse topics have been highlighted here, that’s certainly not all that went on this week. Be sure to head to the Cloud IT homepage for all the updates, and come back next week for the latest insights. Have a great weekend!
