Cloud IT Week in Review: IDC, CloudConnect, Simplified Networks & More

August 20, 2016

Happy Saturday! This week in Cloud IT saw a variety of topics covered.  Whether you’re interested in company phone systems, cloud market growth, or acquisitions, there’s something for everyone. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at this week’s happenings.

This week started off with a question that any business that’s moved locations has likely encountered: Can the company take its phone numbers when it moves? This may not seem like it should be a number one concern for a moving business, but the thought of having to get all new phone numbers is rather tedious. Plus all kinds of problems can occur if you don’t keep your numbers. This has always been a hassle but, luckily, TMC’s Tracey E. Schelmetic has everything you need to know about simplifying the process.

In other news, the future looks bright for the cloud. Fifty percent of enterprises will have hybrid clouds by 2017, according to the Global Hybrid Cloud Services Market 2016-2020 study by Technavio. The market is predicted to grow in the upcoming years, but there will undoubtedly be some challenges along the way. TMC’s Paula Bernier has all the details on the predicted market growth, challenges and key players HERE.

On the same note, the International Data Corporation (IDC) recently brought out its Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker report, and revealed that a soft first quarter of spending likely won't have that much impact on the rest of the year. TMC’s Steve Anderson writes, “What's more, the numbers we've already seen suggest some impressive new developments to come in 2016, with more likely to follow.” You can take a look at some of these gains in Cloud IT HERE.

In other news, Simplified Networks officially acquired CloudConnect this week. The merging of these two influential telecommunications companies could mean big things for the future of VoIP. There are a lot of benefits and possibilitites coming out of this merger. For all the details, go HERE.

While some diverse topics have been highlighted here, that’s certainly not all that went on this week. Be sure to head to Cloud IT  for all the updates, and come back next week for the latest insights. Have a great weekend!
